This interior is a cosy home for a young couple in a small town near Amsterdam. A spacious two-level apartment with an open-plan kitchen and living area, and access to a private inner courtyard, provided the perfect base for creating a comfortable and atmospheric space.
We designed the interior in a natural, calm palette with soft accents and earthy tones. Special attention was given to textures: bouclé and linen, matte and glossy surfaces, various shades of wood, local touches of ceramic and natural stone. Colour appears through details — textiles, artwork, décor — adding character and reinforcing the restrained yet distinctive aesthetic.
Restrictions on layout changes and electrical installation made the project particularly interesting. We couldn’t set up lighting scenarios in the usual way, so we looked for alternative solutions. In the dining area, for example, a floor lamp replaced ceiling lighting, and table lamps were integrated into different zones — creating a warm, tranquil atmosphere.
Despite its apparent simplicity and technical limitations, the interior gained expressiveness through subtle nuances — in textures, light, and carefully chosen details.
